Trip Report Long Beach 8/13-8/19

We had another wonderful week at Long Beach. My daughters and I were lucky enough to go twice this summer. The first time with a friend and her son (see trip report 7/27-8/4) and this time with my husband. We rented the same condo from VRBO #124250. We got a great deal on the second week. It was less than half of the first week. It was a cheaper week since it was later in the month and she gave us an additional discount. Awesome second floor condo! The view was beautiful and you were right there on the beach. Plus, it felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. No one was there. The ';umbrella boys'; only set up every second or third chair and they were never full. My husbands wants to come the same week next year! We did not have ANY wair at ANY reataurant! It was a big difference from our earlier trip. We swam in the lagoon pool every evening and several times during the day also. Beatiful pool and the snack shack was good. Reasonable prices and good food. We also had gotten a $10 gift certificate for food from Kim the condo lady. The beach had sea weed Monday night and Tuesday then it cleared up. We spent two days at St. Andrew Jetty%26#39;s. The first day was great but the second time we went the Jelly Fish were all over. No one was getting in and the man we were talking to had several red welts from stings.

We went to Emeral falls to play arcade games several times. The kids love this. They save up their tickets for the last day to cash in for prizes. We estimate that we spent about $60 on 5 stuffed animals :). But we had hours of family fun!

We explored historic St. Andrews and Historic downtown Panama City. They were both worth the drive across the bridge. lots of neat little stores that had some great items. My older daughter and I saw the Titanic exibit. Cost $20 for both of us. It was ok but not as good as some others. But we are both big Titanic buffs so we went even though it has bad reviews. We ate at Tom%26#39;s Hot Dog%26#39;s on Harrison in Panama city. Great Hot Dogs! Lunch for the 4 of us was $17.

We also ate at the following:

Uncle Ernies in Historic St Andrews - We had lunch here. The food was good but a little pricey for lunch. We had another great table by the water.

Pineapple Willy%26#39;s - Average food but we go for the view and the atmosphere. We have always had good service when we have gone.

Spinnaker%26#39;s - Good burgers and great view. Service here was good also

Treasure Ship Lower Level. I had the best grouper here. Great service and nice outside seating.

Boondock%26#39;s was my favorite. I had grouper %26amp; shrimp here and they were both good. Although I thought the grouper at the treasure ship was better. The fried pickles and cheese grits were great. Nice view although we had inside seating.

Sonny%26#39;s BBQ had great prices $35 for the 4 of us was by far the cheapest dinner we had. The food was good too and the portions large.

I also had to try Thomas Donuts this trip after reading so much on this forum about them. I arrived at 7:15 and only had one person in front of me. My husband thought they were the best he ever had. I still am a Krispy Kreme girl. I will admit that the vanilla creme filling was better at Thomas than KK. Also you could not beat them for selection. They had many different fillings we had not been able to get before. I would definitely go here again. It was a little bit of a drive from Long Beach but it was actually really nice. I was almost the only one on the road.

We also played putt putt at Emerald Falls and Pirates Cove. We liked Pirates Cove alot better.

All in all we had a great week and were sad to come home. The only bad part (other than coming home) was the ticket we recieved for speeding in Alabama on the way down. They were having ';Take back our highways'; week. I can%26#39;t really complain because we were speeding. We were doing 79 in a 70 and the ticket is costing us $135. Needless to say we slowed down and set the speed control.

Great report, glad you had fun. Sorry about the ticket, the required # of stops increased per trooper from 18 a day to 24 for that week, per a co-worker who%26#39;s son is a trooper. Although she said that is just the number of stops, they did not have to write tickets for every stop.

We were caught in radar that was being shot out of an abandoned SUV on the side of the highway. It even has the sticker on the rear like it had been there awhile. Our trooper told us they had 2 guys in the back shooting radar out the windows. They were sneaky like that all through the state. You would see an abandoned car then about 6 or 7 police cars backed up on the next road. It was like that all the way down. We probably saw over 100 people pulled over. We have never seen anything like it. They were pulling people over in Durangos with racing stickers on the back and a light on their dash and we saw numerous different SUV%26#39;s being used to pull people over. I do not know if these were the personal vehicles of the officers or not. The trooper who pulled us over told us they had even pulled all the people out of the office and had them on the road issuing tickets! It definitely worked for us. We did not speed anymore for the entire trip!
