powerboat races

Does anyone know if they race on the ocean side or gulf side and is it hard to get a spot to watch them?

powerboat races

Aargh. I miss them not. However, for the sake of fairness...

They are on the Gulf side. And it is simple to get ';a spot'; to watch them, as any place on the West side of the Island from the Historic Bight down to Fort Zach is occupied by the races.

(Navy mole by Fort Zach area is apparently where all the ';main action'; happens.)

I imagine premium viewing is to be had behind the Westin, as well as at Zero Duval.

For the record.

Mallory Square is also a good place to watch them. The boats race by mayby 50 feet from the pier.

They race gulf side. Several years ago they raced ocean side for one year but it pissed off the hoteliers on the Gulf. There are races Wed, Fri and Sun and there are at least a couple of races each of those days. Most rooms with a water view will already be booked by now. A lot of people watch the races from the Ocean Key Pier. Pier House use to do something but I am not sure what they will do since their deck is under construction. Fort Zack is another idea but you will not see the whole course.

You can also buy a seat on a boat in the middle of the harbor and they go right around you!

And exactly when are they this year guys?

November....2nd week (?)

Nov. 7-11 Wed-Sun

Is this a bad time to visit? I was planning a long weekend for our 20th wedding anniversary that weekend.

Not at all. You%26#39;ll see them if you%26#39;re looking for them. Once in a great while, you may hear them as they thunder by but it%26#39;s a great time to visit.

It can depend on where you stay. If you were in one of the hotels on the north side at the pool or beach area, it becomes very noisy. There are the powerboats themselves and then there are the chase, news, and medical helicopters flying aound after them.
